WILLIAM LEE WILLIAMS

William Lee "Bill" Williams, 72, died at his home on May 31, 2005. He valiantly fought cancer for the last two years. Our Heavenly Father finally called His tired fighter home. He was surrounded by his family and their love for him.

He was born May 22, 1933 in Quarry Township in Jersey County to William Christopher and Lola Mae Schisler Williams. He was born and raised on the family farm and joined the Army in 1951, serving in Germany during the Korean War. After 36 years in the wire mill, he retired in 1991 from Laclede Steel Co. in Alton. He married Sue Anne Henander on November 11, 1962. She survives.

Bill loved being outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, fixing things around the house, going to auctions, and working in his yard and garden. He was proud of the four Pride awards he received in the last 10 years for his home and garden. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1308, Alton. He volunteered his time and energy to his neighborhood helping with such projects as clean-ups, National Night Out, and youth activities. He also volunteered at the Community Hope Center.

Bill was a wonderful father and husband. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, James Lee (Diana) Williams of Cottage Hills, William Guy Williams of Alton, two grandchildren Michael and Pauline, two nieces and a nephew, and special friends John and Laura Brunkhorst.

He was preceded by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Phillip Eugene and Patricia (Hoekstra) Williams.

Friends and family may attend a celebration of Bill's life from 4 – 8 pm on Friday, June 3 and on Saturday, June 4 from 9:30 am to time of service at 10:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6500 Humbert Road, Godfrey. Burial and military rites will be in Hartford Cemetery, Grafton, later in the day on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the missionary fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or to the Community Hope Center, Cottage Hills.
