Charles "Chuck" H. Bertucci
BERTUCCI, Charles "Chuck" H. ~ Age 76, of Dillard, Oregon, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006, in a local hospital. He was born on October 15, 1929, in Portland, Oregon, to Joseph F. and Isabel D. Majaska Bertucci. Chuck began working at the age of 15, setting chokers for Short Standley in Camas Valley, Oregon, and continued to work in the woods until the mid-1940s. He worked as a lineman for the telephone company. In 1949, he began working for Hult Lumber Company where he worked as a straddle carrier. In 1964, he went to work at Roseburg Lumber Company running a log stacker (Letourneau). In 1984, he fell from his Letourneau, making him no longer able to work. Chuck retired from Roseburg Forest Products in 1991. He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge Local 29-49 Union of Local Sawmill Workers since 1949. Chuck was also a commercial fisherman out of Charleston, Oregon, on his boat the Wegotcha until his health no longer would allow him to do so. He hunted for many years in the Chemult and Douglas County areas. Chuck enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, and fishing with his dear friends and family. He loved telling fishing and hunting stories and sharing the good old days at Hult Lumber. Chuck was a great man, a wonderful provider for his wife and step-children and later was able to provide a loving home for his granddaughter and raise her as his own. He will be so greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Audrey I. Hessler Bertucci whom he married on September 29, 1962; two step-children; five grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, Isabel Johnson; and a brother, Joseph Bertucci. There will be no public services upon the request of Chuck. Private arrangements will be made for close family and friends later in the spring.
