Ronald Parker EYMAN was born in a little house in the Pleasantville area which now serves as a garage for the family that owns the property. During his early years the family moved to various parts of Fairfield County as Ronald's father, Frank EYMAN, share farmed. At one point, Frank and Golda owned land just north of Wagram but lost it following a "Hog Cholera" outbreak. As he was growing up he developed an interest in music, in particular the harmonica or "mouth harp" as it is sometimes called. He learned to play by ear and entertained his grandchildren in his later years at family holiday gatherings.
You could almost always count on him having the harmonica in his pocket at birthday celebrations. Following his retirement he began to follow the Buckeye State Harmonica Band (15 July 1987) and would often tape their music. We like to tell the story of how he convinced our mother, Alice, to go to the mall in Zanesville.
She could shop while he sat and listened to the Buckeye Harmonica group.
When she returned at the end of the appointed time, imagine her surprise at finding Ronald, on stage, playing solo with the band! Since he has always been known to be rather quiet and reserved this changed his life dramatically. He began to travel to Columbus for the weekly practices and performed with the band on their different "gigs". He proudly carried a tape cassette of the band in his pocket and peddled it as he visited with people. He jokingly stated that he carried that instead of cigarettes as many people do. He arranged for the band to play at the local Indian Valley Mall for St. Patrick's Day and played with them even in his later years when they came to Newark.
As a young boy working the soil he began collecting Indian arrowheads. When his uncle Cleve MILLER died and Aunt Stella had an auction he purchased some of Cleve's specimens at the farm auction, to add to his collection. He was actively involved with the Licking County Rock & Mineral Society.
He retired from Wm. S. MOORE & Co. after 18 years of service. He began as a laborer and retired as stock person. He then went on to work at OWENS TECH CENTER in outside maintenance. Before his final retirement he worked as a handyman for Mont COCHRAN, just down the road a piece. He now spends his idle time enjoying his great grandchildren when they visit. Following Alice's death he has split his time between the farm home they shared and his daughter and son-in-law, Ronna and Charles EAGLE's home in Newark, Ohio.
Ronald's love of farming remains today in his retirement years even though he can no longer partake of his avocation."
