Virginia Joyce Smith was the daughter of Noble Ray Smith and Edith Emily Stewart. She and Carl Percy Frantz married April 10, 1942, in Florence, South Carolina, during World War II, while Carl was serving in the United States Army. They made their home west of Capac, St. Clair County, Michigan, where they owned a dairy farm and were the parents of three children who lived to adulthood; a baby son died soon after birth. Virginia kept a loving home and was a Christian believer, a member of the Baptist Church.
