Hazel was the daughter of Jesse James Frantz and Etta Hill; she died in a car accident in Imlay Township, Lapeer County, Michigan, when 11 years old.

"Special to the Times Herald - Girl, 11, Killed - Imlay City, Oct. 12 - Hazel Frantz, 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Frantz, Sr., was killed instantly at 1 p.m. Sunday when the light sedan in which she was riding, left the road, crashed into a tree and overturned. The accident occurred on a country road two miles east and a half mile north of here. Mrs. James Frantz, Jr., 16, driver of the car and sister-in-law of the dead girl, told authorities that she lost control on a curve. The car traveled nearly 120 feet after it left the road before it struck the tree. Edna Mathie, 17, who was also in the car escaped with minor injuries but Mrs. Frantz is under observation in Imlay City hospital suffering from shock and superficial abrasions. All three girls were riding in the front seat and Hazel was apparently thrown out when the door sprung open from the crash. No inquest will be held. Mr. and Mrs. James Frantz, Sr., parents of the victim, have four other children who survive, James, Carl, Jesse and Joyce, all of Imlay City. Hazel was the eldest girl. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. David Shugg, pastor, will officiate. Burial in Imlay City Cemetery." Port Huron Times Herald, October 12, 1936
