Mrs. James O. Newman
Hazel Edna Howell Newman, 78, of Route 4, Clarksburg, died at 5 pm Friday, March 9 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a sudden illness.
She was born in Maude, Aug 25, 1911, a daughter of the late Jerry Thomas and Mary Etta Hawkins Howell.
Her husband, James Okey Newman, preceded her in death on Feb 8, 1988.
Surviving are two sons, James Okey Newman, Central, SC and Lyle Keith Newman, Oakland, MD; and one daughter, Mrs Edison (Shila) Childers, Route 4, Clarksburg; one brother Roy Howell, Massillon, Ohio; three sisters. Mrs. Ruby Miller and Mrs. Clara Jean Girrard both of Canton, Ohio and Mrs. Kathleen Fuchs, Bellsville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Newman was a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church and the Ladies Missionary Society of the church. She was a member of the Sardis Extension Homemakers and had recently received her 50 year pin. She was also a member of the Harrison County Senior Citizens.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm today and Monday at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 239 E. Main Street in Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home.
