From an article on her death in the Seattle Daily Times, dated 19 July 1941:
"Stricken with a heart attack while swimming in Avalon Bay, Catalina Island, Mrs. Lois Pantages, widow of Alexander Pantages, former Seattle threatre magnate, died yesterday on her yacht La Pan, the Associated Press reported.
Mrs Pantages, 57 years old, managed to reach her boat, but succumbed a minute after a physician arrived from the island. She had played miniature golf with friends earlier in the day.
Mrs Pantages, the former Lois Mendenhall, was a member of a prominent Oakland, Calif. family and was a gifted violinist. The Pantageses were marriead in Seattle in 1905. Mr Pantages died in 1936.
The family lived in Seattle until 1929. Mrs Pantages was active socially while her husband was using the fortune he amassed in the Alaskan gold rush to build a chain of theatres throughout the West. The family moved to Los Angeles after Mr Pantages sold his theatres to motion-picture interests shortly before the depression.
Mrs. Pantages granddaughter, Erin Considine, 6 years old, was the only member of the family with her when death came. Two sons, Rodney and Lloyd Pantages met the yacht when it took the body to San Pedro last night. A daughter, Mrs John Considine (Carmen), wife of the film producer, also survives.
Funeral services will be held in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Los Angeles."
