B.F. LaMay, 89, Compton Pioneer, Dies at Westley

Death Follows Short Illness; Services Tuesday

Benjamin Franklin LaMay, pioneer resident of the Compton community, passed away Saturday evening, December 16, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 6 days. Death came at Wesley hospital, where he had been confined only a few hours.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational church at 1:30, the Rev. Theoph. Meckel officiating at the last rites. Interment was in the local cemetery, with George J. Uselman, Otto Skog, Howard Oyster, Louis Uselman, George Gedde and James Fahey acting as pallbearers.

Arvilla Thomson sang "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown?", "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Mrs. Robert Kelsey was at the organ.

Mr. LaMay was born May 10, 1861 at Wilson, Minn., the son of Catherine and Peter LaMay. As a young man he worked in the woods in northern Minnesota and later ran a gang saw for the LaCrosse Lumber Company in Wisconsin. After farming in the Dakotas for thirteen years, he brought his family to Minnesota, living near Wadena the balance of his life.

He married Wreathy Mae Vanderhoff on March 20, 1888 at Melrose, Wisconsin, who with five children survive. They are Mabel Mary Skog, Benjamin Earl LaMay, Arthur Hyle(sp) LaMay, Mildred Doris Uselman and Perle Audrey Oyster, all of the Wadena vicinity. There are eight grandchildren. A brother, Joe LaMay lives in Michigan.
