Mrs. Sophie Roemmich, daughter of John and Margaretha Ulmer, was born June 28, 1889 near Sutton. She died May 4, 1985 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vera Reichert, with whom she had made her home for a little more than three years. She was nearly 96 years old at the time of her death on Saturday evening, May 4, 1985.

Mrs Roemmich was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed faith in Sutton.

On September 19, 1912 she was married to Arthur Roemmich. They had 7 children. Mr. and Mrs. Roemmich lived on a farm near Sutton until failing health caused them to retire in 1949 when they moved to Sutton.

Mrs. Roemmich was preceded in death by her husband in September, 1956; her parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and 4 grandchildren.

Surviving Mrs. Roemmich are her seven children: Herman of Ong; Oscar of Sutton; Henry of Sutton; Arthur of York; Mrs. Vern (Vera) Reichert, Sutton; Mrs. Carl (Irene) Scheierman, Harvard; and Mrs. Jonathan (Edna) Griess, Sutton. Also surviving her are 28 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Frank, Gregory, SD.

The funeral was held at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Sutton on Tuesday with Reverend Lloyd Gross officiating. Richard and Linda Reichert were vocalists, accompanied by Mrs. Claire Gross. Casket bearers were Wilbert Roemmich, Edward Roemmich, Robert Fisher, Robert Johnson, Patrick Miner, and Thomas Roemmich. Burial was in the Sutton Cemetery. Arrangements were by Kohler Mortuary.
