BERKEY, FRED H., 76, of Somerset, PA, died May 26, 2011 in Louisville of congestive heart failure. Born January 28, 1935 in Milford Twp., he was preceded in death by father, Lloyd R. Berkey; mother, Mildred (Dunmeyer) Berkey; and companion, Margaret Wiley. Survived by children, Marilyn (Mrs. Allan) Nicholson of Louisville and Fred "Fritz" Berkey, married to Brenda (Pyle) Berkey, of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Brandy (Sanner) Hayes, Stephanie Berkey, and Joshua Berkey, USMC, currently serving in Afghanistan; great-grandchild, Collin Hayes; brother of Audrey (Berkey) Snyder of Somerset and Lloyd "Dudder" Berkey of New Centerville, PA. Fred was an avid aviation enthusiast and beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of the Somerset Aero Club, former member of the VFW and Eagles. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, 476 W. Main St., Somerset, PA 15501, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Reverend John Phipps officiating. Interment in Somerset County Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Somerset Area Ambulance Association, PO Box 165, Somerset, PA 15501.
