Willis Monroe Beal was the son of Elisha E and Sallie (Hilliard) Beal. He and his brother George W Beal were orphaned early in life. Bill was raised by J E and Mollie Allen.

He served in the U S Army during WW1.

On June 15, 1927 in Kannapolis, NC, he became the husband of Alma Ruth Humphrey, daughter of HB and Della Ann (Graves) Humphrey. This union was blessed with Mary Ann, Michael Carlyle, Laura Lee Thompson, George Edward, and John Earl (Jack).
