Husband of Kathy E. Harvey Hayes 1951-2007George Elmer Richard “Bud” Hayes, age 74, resident of Big Sandy, Tennessee and husband of the late Kathy E. Harvey Hayes, departed this life Tuesday morning, September 22, 2015 at his residence.

Services and Interment for Mr. Hayes were private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Hayes was born February 8, 1941 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, William George Hayes and Rosa Maxine Henley Hayes. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married May 2, 1999 to the former Kathy E. Harvey, who preceded him in death on May 21, 2007.

Mr. Hayes served his country in the United States Army during peacetime as a paratrooper for the 51st Airborne and was employed as a hydraulic engineer for the Department of Energy and Defense before his retirement. After retiring, he was employed with the Post Intelligence Newspaper in Paris, Tennessee. He was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee and resided in Somerville for 17 years and Big Sandy for 15 years. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed working on cars and reading Western books. Mr. Hayes will be remembered as a family-oriented person who enjoyed life, was a devoted employee to his work and had a special love for his grandchildren.

Mr. Hayes is survived by three daughters, Kim Myers-Hayes of Port Lavaca, TX, Tonya Elaine Scruggs of Big Sandy, TN, Karen Eloise Bertrand of Collierville, TN; five sons, Richard Earl Hayes of Golden Valley, AZ, Ronald Merle Hayes of Golden Valley, AZ, George Scott Hayes of Seymour, TN, Chester Lawrence Waszak of Lexington, TN, Duncan Cole King of Lexington, TN; five sisters, Ann Taylor of Somerville, TN, Hazel Nix of Troy, MO, Dorothy “Dot” Mackus of Williston, TN, Sandra Eaton of Memphis, TN, Greta Hayes of Oakland, TN; his brother, Dennis Hayes of Whiteville, TN; 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Linda Taylor, 16845 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
