John J. Daume, 92, formerly of Jackson, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011, at Springfield Rehab and Healthcare in Springfield, Mo.

He was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Cape Girardeau, to John W. and Meta Engelmann Daume.

John was founder of Johnny Daume and His Ozark Ridgerunners, a popular area band in the 1940s; and became a well-known radio DJ, entertainer and songwriter in the country music industry in the 1950s and 1960s.

He is survived by five children, Roger (Kathy) Daume of Wild Rose, Wis., Dan (Sherri) Daume of Tallahassee, Fla., Carla (Alan) Bryant of Germantown, Ohio, Kate (Jeff) Rihn of Sparta, Wis., Steve (Kathie) Daume of Springfield; three sisters, Dorothy (Lawrence) Heise of Oak Ridge, Martha (Elmer) Kamp of Jackson, Mary Daume of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Lloyd Schoenebeck; an infant sister; a granddaughter, Tonya Lenz; a great-granddaughter, Ava Toms; and former wife and mother of his children, Delores Huckstep Daume.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of service Tuesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Rodney Pensel officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Fruitland.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. John's United Church of Christ, 781 State Highway FF, Jackson, MO 63755.
