Arthur Lee Bailey

BAILEY
Arthur Lee, 81, stepped from this life into eternal life on February 2, 2005, at Veterans Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. The youngest of five children, he was born on April 14, 1923, in Dunbar, Oklahoma to Jesse and Eva Bailey. He grew up in and attended school in Clayton, Oklahoma. During World War II, Art served in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater of Operations with the 41st Bombardment Group, where he was a top turret gunner on a B-25. He and his two brothers Jess and Orbin were all members of the Greatest Generation, defending and serving the United States in WW II. After the war, Art met, fell in love with, and married Odecye Roundtree in Oklahoma City where they both worked and he was going to business school. They married on January 31, 1947. They were wonderful parents to son Curtis and daughter Cathy, and even better at being grandparents to Andrea, Tricia, Matthew, and Alan. Art proved what a kind, gentle, and loving man he was by taking care of Odecye during the last five years of her life. His special friend Verda Armes came along when his days were long and lonely, and she helped brighten his life for the past three years. She is part of the family now. She and Art enjoyed visiting with and playing games with their friends from the senior meal site at Eagle Heights Baptist Church. Art has been, reunited in heaven with Odecye and son Curtis, as well as his sisters Clydia German and Viola Cox and brother Orbin Bailey. Those who will one day be reunited with all of them are daughter Cathy Cook and husband Jody of Moore; daughter-in-law Nancy Bailey of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Andrea Bailey of Oklahoma City; Tricia Cook and husband Daniel Lee of Austin, TX; Matthew Bailey and Alan Cook of Oklahoma City; and brother Jess Bailey of Lawton, as well as a host of other family. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Veterans Hospital for their wonderful care during the last month. Art was a true gentleman, a man of wit and humor, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a true and faithful friend. He is mourned because we miss him, but we have the comforting knowledge that we will see him again. Services will be held at Southgate Baptist Church in Moore at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 5, 2005 with interment to follow at Moore City Cemetery. BAGGERLEY SOUTH 5708 S.
