Mary was b. between 1790-1800, parents unknown. She died before 1849 (when Nathaniel married Catharine Carpenter) in either Fountain Co., IN or Campbell Co., KY. Nathaniel bought property in Fountain Co. in 1832, but he is not found on the 1840 census.

On August 28, 1845, William Casteel sued his father for monies owed him for the care and feeding, etc., as well as the burial costs for Mary Casteel from 1 April 1841 to 1 Apr 1845. Also included in the law suit was money paid out for the care & feeding of Elisabeth & Andrew Casteel, siblings of William. William also declared that he felt Nathan was not at the time a resident of the state of Indiana.
