Margaret Elizabeth Westra was born February 10, 1897 to Mr. and Mrs. George Graba in Meadow Township, Wadena County.
She Passed away February 27, 1977 at the Tri-County Hospital, Wadena at the age of 80 years and 17 days.
She was united in marriage to Minno Westra, September 16, 1913 at Sebeka, Minnesota. To this union was born one son, Harley Westra, Backus and one daughter who died at birth.
Most of her married life was spent on their farm in Orton Township.
Margaret or "Bess" as she was known to her friends was a charming, gracious person. Both she and Minno took active part in the community. She was a member of Nimrod Lutheran Church. For many years she was a faithful member of Orton Grange and a lecturer of Pomona Grange for six years.
Prior to her death she was living on the old home place.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Minno and infant daughter, Bernice.
She is survived by her son, Harley and wife, Grace, Backus; one brother, Fred Graba, Sebeka; four sisters, Helen, Laura, Betty and Arlene of California; a niece, Elza Anderson; two nephews, Erwin and Rial Carney of Minneapolis and California; also a host of distant relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 2, 1977 at 1:30 P.M. at the Nimrod Lutheran Church, Nimrod, Minnesota. Music was provided by Mrs. Oray Tangen, the vocalist and Mrs. Russell Nelson, the organist.
The pallbearers were Jerome Schermerhorn, Reynold O'Neil, Don Straight, Herb Crackel, David Avelsgard and Edward Raddohl. Interment was at the West Lyons Cemetery, Lyons Township, Minnesota.
Relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. Harley Westra of Backus, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Graba and family of Sebeka, Minnesota; Mrs. Minnie Frame of Menahga, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Westra, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Westra and Mrs. John Westra and son of Foley, Minnesota; Mrs. Curtis Bilstrom of Mora, Minnesota; Mrs. Harold Elseth of Renville, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Carney and Mrs. Elza Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
