Born in the village of Grafendobrach in northern Bavaria, Diedrich Hain immigrated to the USA with his wife Anna Barbara (nee Huebner) and the three youngest of their five children, Georg, Wolfgang and Margaret, arriving in Baltimore MD on October 12, 1839. The two elder children, Elizabeth and Johann (John) were already in Posey County IN. Diedrich purchased his first 77 acres in Stewartsville, IN closing the deal on January 2, 1840. His wife Barbara died sometime later that year (after the census) or very early in 1841. Diedrich remarried in June 1841. His second wife was Anna Catherina Roeder who had been living in the Darmstadt area of Vanderburgh Co. Indiana. They made their home in Stewartsville where in May 1847 she bore him twin sons Henry and Jasper. Land sale records show Diedrich and his wife & the twins apparently moved to the Darmstadt area in about 1865 where Diedrich died and was buried in 1873.
The spelling of the surname was changed in order to retain the correct pronunciation of the name, with Diedrich's children from his first marriage taking the spelling HYNE and Diedrich and the twins opting for HEIN.
