Dale R. Cramer, 81, of New Centerville, passed on Feb. 16, 2010, at the Hospice House in Somerset. Born May 25, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, he is the son of the late Charles L. and Elsie Berkey Miller Cramer. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dolores "Hun" Cramer in 2008. He is survived by his children, Bradley Cramer of Rockwood and partner Vicki Centi of Shanksville, Jayne Bahrenburg and husband Frederick of Glenside, and Troy Cramer of Mt. Oliver; and granddaughter Julianne Bahrenburg. Dale was a 1946 graduate of Somerset High School. He then served in Co. C of the PA National Guard's 28th Division during the Korean War and also an additional 20 years with the 28th Infantry, Armour, and Military Police. He then owned and operated Dale R. Cramer Garage in New Centerville for 50 years. He also served as a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Donald Hay and was a long-time safety engineer with Rockwood Insurance Co. Dale was a charter and life member of the New Centerville & Rural Fire Co. where he served as Chief and on the board of directors. He was also a captain of the Fire Police. He was a member of Lodge #357 of the F&AM in Somerset, the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, and the Harrisburg Consistory, as well as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #98 and the American Legion Post 181 in Somerset. Dale was chairman of the Henry K. Fluck Armory Board in Friedens and was a member of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States. He was a 50 year member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in New Centerville where he served on the church council. He was a past member of the Rockwood Area School Board and the Sewer Authority of New Centerville Borough. He was also associated with the New Centerville Farmers and Threshermens Jubilee since its inception. Dale devoted his entire life to the New Centerville Fire Department. He loved antique and classic cars, and enjoyed restoring anything mechanical or automotive. He was a proud veteran who cherished his time in military service. He loved to spit-shine shoes and listen to polka music. Friends will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the New Centerville Fire Dept. will have a service at 7:30 p.m., both Thursday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church, New Centerville, Pastor Will Osman officiating. There will be 2 hours of visitation prior to the service. Interment with full military honors by the Somerset County Honor Guard at Union Cemetery adjacent to the church.
