Cornelia Chapman McCrary, age 95, of Conyers, Georgia, died June 1, 2007. She was born on December 4, 1911 in Lithonia, Georgia to Rachel and William Chapman. She served as an Air Raid Warden for DeKalb County. She was a member and secretary for the Lithonia Women's Club. She was a member of the Lithonia Baptist Church where she kept the nursery for 40 years. She attended Piedmont College and the University of Georgia. She received her teaching certificate from Georgia Southern College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia. She was the first 1st Grade teacher at Murphy Candler School in Klondike, Georgia. Her teaching career included various grades in the Lithonia, Rock Chapel and Klondike communities. She served as a substitute teacher for DeKalb and Rockdale counties. She enjoyed cooking, reading and gardening. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Henry Grady McCrary.
She is survived by her three children, Michael Grady McCrary, Susan McCrary Henesy and Henry Chapman McCrary. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Lithonia at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Shelton & Dr. Jim Martin officiating; interment will follow at Hillandale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Scot Ward Funeral Services. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
