Capt. Homer W. Styron, 87, one of the fine old veterans of the Life Saving Service who made history in the rescue of shipwrecked sailors a half century ago, died Monday at his home at Hatteras following a long illness due to the infirmities of age. He was buried at Hatteras Tuesday at 2 p.m. Capt.

Styron was one of the most interesting men of the coast country. He had a great host of friends. His life was spent at Hatteras and he had been retired for some 25 years or more, having long served at Creeds Hill Station near Trent or Frisco.

He was twice married and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Agnes Fulcher Styron, and by the following children: Mrs. Charlie Ballance, Mrs. Fred Austin, Sr., Mrs. Ronald Stowe and a son, Edgar Styron of Hatteras, and Chauncey Styron of New Jersey.

For many years visitors to Hatteras have considered Capt. Homer one of the most interesting citizens and he is a landmark that will be greatly missed. He was full of knowledge and delightful reminiscence about the North Carolina coastland. He was an ardent Democrat, a member of the Masonic Order and the Royal Arch Chapter in Elizabeth City.
