Joyce Ann Monroe, 71, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Denton, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the Drawing Room of the White Family Funeral Home with Mike Henson officiating.

Burial will follow Elmwood Cemetery.

Joyce was born October 18, 1939, to Jackson and Ester(Byford) Thompson in Bowie, Texas. She graduated from Bowie High School in 1958. She married Kenneth Monroe on February 25, 1960. She was a lifelong resident of Bowie and worked for Merlin Shriner Doctor's Office and JC Penny. She enjoyed reading and cooking for her family gatherings. She is remembered with love and appreciation for her devoted years of life as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Ileta Jo Roberts and Phylis Scott.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth Monroe of Bowie; two sons Steve Monroe and wife, Susie of Stanton, and Larry Monroe of Bowie; three grandchildren, Brian, Kyler, and Tanner Monroe; one great-granddaughter, Dallie Rayne Monroe; one brother, J.T. Thompson of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Lou Miller of Bowie, and Helen Chancellor of Dalton; numerous nieces and nephews.
