Robert Childress was the son of John and Elizabeth Lindsay Childress. He served in the War of 1812 as a Private in Major John Chiles' Battalion, Mounted Gunmen, East TN Volunteers (discharged as Private). Also known as Major John Childes' Battalion, East TN Mounted Infantry Volunteers.Hre was farmer in VA and TN.
He married Polly Lucas on Nov 8, 1805 in Knox Co, East TN
