ABBEVILLE, AL……James Harold Armstrong, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2011, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. He was 91.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 26, 2011, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Activities Building Fund, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.

Mr. Armstrong was a native of Henry County, son of the late William Perry Armstrong and A.Z. Barnette Armstrong. He lived in Abbeville most of his lifetime. Mr. Armstrong served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from Champion International Paper Products in Abbeville. In earlier years, Mr. Armstrong worked with Builders Homes in Dothan and Anderson Construction in Ft. Gaines, Georgia. He was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church where had also served as a deacon. Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters, Rena Herndon and Eudine Mathison; and also two brothers, Lowell Armstrong and Hiram Armstrong.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Florence Money Armstrong, Abbeville; a son, Bobby Armstrong and wife, Donna, Opelika, AL; a sister, Jean Culpepper; a brother, Robert Armstrong, both of Abbeville; two grandchildren, Chance Armstrong and Katie Armstrong.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Perry Culpepper, Bart Culpepper, Robert Armstrong, Tracy Armstrong, Carroll Grimes and Chance Armstrong.
