GEORGE HANSBRAUGH

George S. Hansbraugh, 72, 314 Short St., died at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 1984 at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after a long illness.

Mr. Hansbraugh was born April 17, 1912, in Galena, and was a lifetime resident here. He had worked at the Eagle-Picher Smelter in Galena for 30 years, retiring as foreman in the shipping department in 1972.

He was active in the community, serving as a city councilman for 16 years. He was an active member of the Galena Fire Department for 33 years, serving as fire chief for 18 years. He was chief emeritus of the Galena Fire Department.

He was a member of the Kansas Peace Officier's Association, past Democratic committeeman and past president of the Galena Cemetery Association.

In 1975, he was recognized as "citizen of the year" by the Galena Elks Lodge and in 1980, he was honored at Galena's birthday celebration with the day being declared "George Hansbraugh Day".

He married June Maxine Brooks Sept. 22, 1951, at Bentonville, Ark. She is his only immediate survivor.

Services were held Saturday at Derfelt Funeral Home. Father Daniel Mulvihill officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Murray, Joe LaTurner, Jack Turner, Jack Maxton, David Brewster and Neal Weaver.

June Maxine Brooks Hansbraugh, 70, 314 Short Street, Galena, died on Fri. Aug. 29, 1997, at Freeman Hospital-West Joplin, following an illness.

Mrs. Hansbraugh was born June 17, 1918 in galena. She had lived here all of her life. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Richard Joseph, Joplin, for 18 years.

She was a member of Schiffendecker Women's Golf Association and the Joplin Women's Bowling Association.

She was married to George Hansbraugh on September 22, 1951, at Bentonville, Ark. He died Nov. 21, 1984.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Tues., Sept. 2, at Derfelt'a Funeral Home, Galena. Rev. Charles Idleman officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena.

Pallbearers were Jack Murray, Bill Hall, Joe LaTurner, Fred Whitechurch, Tom Baumgardner and Dr. Richard Joseph.
