Charles Joseph Hannon of Mission, KS passed away on May 23, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer. Charlie was born in Kansas City, KS on August 15, 1921, the son of Charles and Catherine (Carney) Hannon. He attended Bishop Ward High School and then joined the army. Charlie served in the Pacific in World War II and participated in four island invasions. Following the war he attended and graduated from the University of Kansas. Charlie married Mary Louise Terry in 1951 and they experienced 53 wonderful years prior to her death in 2004. Charlie is survived by his son Tim, and his wife, Anne, son Michael, and his wife Laurie, daughter Teresa, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Charlie worked for most of his career for the Federal Government's Defense Department and Small Business Administration as a contract analyst. He was a sportsman who played softball, bowling and, after his retirement, he became an avid golfer and played in two senior leagues up until the time of his death. Charlie was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was involved in coaching his sons in multiple sports and he rarely missed attending any event that included his children and grandchildren. Charlie enjoyed life to its fullest. He always had a positive outlook and remained active throughout his life. He took a genuine interest in everyone he met and valued his friendships. Charlie always enjoyed a good joke. He looked for the best in every situation and tried to help others laugh. Services will be held at St. Pius X Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, KS on Friday, May 27th. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11:00 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery following the Mass.
