James Earl "Sonny" Abercrombie 67,of Winnsboro,Texas died Thursday July 18,2002 after a brief illness. He served his country joining the National Guard in 1953 and then the Marine Corps, serving from 1954-1966. Afterwards, he worked at Red River Army Depot until retirement. He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening, and most off all, helping others, never hesitating to offer a lending hand. He was preceaded in death by his parents, James Earl nd Artie Abercrombie and his two sons, Gary Wayne and Eugene Abercrombie. Survivors include his wife, Iva Lee Abercrombie; one daughter, Sherry Crawford of Hooks, Texas; one son, Jimmy Abercrombie of New Boston, Texs; his mother-in-law, Hallie Roberts of of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; one brother, Wayne Abercrombie of Warren, Missouri; two sisters, Hazel Merz of Richardson, Texas; and Anita Hale of Checotah, OK; six grandchildren; 3 stepgreandchildren; and numrous neieces, nephews; friend Rany Bevill; and counles others. Graveside services with full military rites will be Saturday July 27,2002 at 11 a.m. in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens, Nash, TX with the Rev. Roy Ford officiatng.
