Izora Whitman Pollard, a resident of Haralson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, passed away on December 22, 2007. She was 96. Mrs. Pollard lived a wonderful and full life. She was born on May 25, 1911 in Cleburne County, Alabama to the late John and Fannie Jones Whitman. She graduated from Ranburne High School in 1927. She enjoyed acting in school plays with her sister Flora. She also played tennis and basketball for her school. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed extensively for her son, daughter, and also for some for friends and relatives. She was a very talented quilter and made quilts for all of her grandchildren. Mrs. Pollard was also an outstanding cook and baker. She and her husband Alton were avid gardeners and grew and preserved most of their food for many years. Anyone who knew Mrs. Pollard knew what a fun loving, gracious person she was. If anyone came for a visit she would offer them a delicious meal, and would also be available to sit and talk and listen. She had a great sense of humor, and was a good story teller. She was also an encourager to her friends and relatives.
She also overcame many hardships.

After losing her husband to cancer when she was only 60 years old, she learned to drive and got a job at the local school cafeteria. She was a wonderful, loving grandmother who taught her grandchildren much about cooking, sewing, homemaking, having fun, and living life abundantly. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Ranburne. Living out her life of faith was evident to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Alton Pollard, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Holliday; her brothers, Ervin and Curtis Whitman; and her sisters, Flora Skinner and Mary Jackson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law of Carrollton; her brother of Carrollton; six grandchildren and their spouses; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services held on December 26 at Ranburne Baptist Church, Ranburne, AL, with Rev. Jerry Wolfe officiating. Pallbearers are Barry Pollard, Drew Davis, Jeff Reid, Brian Phillips, Caleb Key, and Rusty Holliday. Interment in the Ranburne Cemetery. Rainwater Funeral Home of Bowdon, Georgia, in charge of arrangements.
