Alan W. Pleiness, age 61 of Port Hope, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at his home under hospice care.

He was born on April 25,1950 in to Thelma (Pilaske) Pleiness and the late August Pleiness.

Alan and Janis Perdue were united in marriage on July 28, 1973 in Port Hope. Alan served in the US Army during Vietnam, and worked at Dow AgroSciences for 37 years.
Alan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Harbor Beach, and the AmVets Post 115 and American Legion Post 197.

He enjoyed working in his shop, playing horseshoes, hunting, fishing, took pride in his tractors and backhoe, and enjoyed talking about his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Janis Pleiness of Port Hope, and his children: Tracy Lemanski and her husband Chris of Midland, Stacy Rick and her husband Matt of Bad Axe, Gina Zurek and her husband Tim of Harbor Beach, and Kevin Pleiness and his wife Dawn of Harbor Beach. His mother Thelma Pleiness of Harbor Beach, and grandchildren: Jonathan, Collin, and Gabe Lemanski, Nolan, Noelle and Nate Rick, Dylan, Morgan, and Brynley Zurek and Hunter and Brooklyn Pleiness. His siblings, Ed Pleiness, Linda Osier, Kathy Lindland, and Michele Duggan, brother-in-laws Robert (Sharon) Perdue, Ernie (Debra) Perdue, Bill (Ellen) Perdue and Ronald Smith. Sister-in-laws Gloria (Dave) Schmaltz, Sally (Jim) Scott, Nancy Reinke, and Janice Perdue. He was preceded in death by his father August Pleiness, sister Janet Pleiness, sister-in-laws Patricia Braun, Doris Smith, brother-in-laws Wayne Reinke, Al Osier and and his father and mother-in-law William and Dorothea Perdue

Funeral Services for Alan will be Wednesday at 11 am in Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. David McCloskey officiating.
Burial will follow in New River Cemetery. Visitation for Alan will be Tuesday from 2-9 pm in the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach, and on Wednesday in the church beginning at 10 am until time of services
