FORMER MONROE SHERIFF ALBERT SKIRVIN DIES
Former Monroe - County Sheriff Albert H. Skirvin, 74, died of cardiac arrest Saturday afternoon at Assembly Hall, where he was running an elevator for spectators at the Indiana-Iowa basketball game.
Skirvin, who lived at 5333 E. Ind. 46 Bloomington, collapsed just before the game and was taken by ambulance to Bloomington Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Born Aug. 13, 1909, in Monroe County, he was the son of Edgar and Edith (Hancock) Skirvin. In addition to his term as sheriff, Skirvin had served as a deputy sheriff and was a carpenter, realtor, and school bus driver. He was a member of the Church of God in Bloomington.
Survivors include his wife, the former Eva East, two sons, Ted of Crown Point and Don of Bloomington; three brothers, Edwin and James, both of Bloomington, and Dale of Dunedin, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Jeffers and Hazel Cummings, both of Bloomington, and Doris Fugich of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Day Mortuary in Bloomington with the Rev. Wayne Edie officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Friends may call today from 7-9 p.m. today and Monday from 2-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
