Deceased Name: Cecil Holmes : Elderly Vernal rancher dies from cow attack
Posted: 8:00 AM- An 87-year-old Uintah County rancher has died a week after two cows attacked him.
Cecil Holmes , of Vernal, died at University Hospital Tuesday, said his daughter, Doylene Timothy.
The incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. March 20 while the rancher was moving the cows and a calf from a field into a pen, Uintah County sheriff's Lt. John E. Laursen said.
The cows charged and knocked the man down, then head-butted him several times while he was on the ground. The man's daughter saw her father fall and called police before chasing the bovines away.
Timothy said her father suffered chest injuries, including broken ribs and punctured lungs, and a broken neck.
