"Alfred R. Carney, of Martinez , Ga. , died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at VA Medical Center. He was 72. Born in Dayton, Mr. Carney was a retired command sergeant major of the U.S. Army. A member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans, he was a former member of the Augusta Board of Realtors. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Nora East Carney; sisters, Edna Gideon and Una Brown; and brothers, Roy, Wayne, William Jr. and Jack Carney.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Cleo Carney; daughters, Donna Thorpe and Pam Hardin; sons, Gary Carney, and Jeffrey L. Carney; brothers, George Carney, and Brownie Carney; sister, Amy Scroggins; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday in the chapel of Platt's Funeral Home in Martinez, Ga., with Chaplin Basal officiating. Burial followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens with full military honors."
