Ballard M. Keck, 85, of Monroe died at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been seriously ill for more than three months. Services were held at Rupp Funeral Home. The Rev. Arlie Grisby, pastor of Monroe Bible Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born April 13, 1913, in Claiborne County, Tenn., he was the son of Johnathon Esau Keck and Rebecca Lavina (Lynch) Keck. He married Laura N. Carey on April 26, 1930, in Pineville, Ky. She died Feb. 22, 1991. He was employed by Ford Motor Co., retiring in 1973.

HE SERVED IN THE NAVY IN WORLD WAR II

Ballard was a member of the Monroe Bible Baptist Church and Local 723, United Auto workers. Surviving are two sons, Walter C. and Sherman, both of Monroe; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Opha) Stansberry of Sharps Chapel, Tenn., two brothers, Buford of New Tazewell, Tenn., and Owen of Knoxville, Tenn; a sister, Ruby Maddox of New Tazewell, Tenn; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife; he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, one of which was, Infant Estel Keck, seven sisters, a great-grandchild, and a great-great grandchild.
