Robert "Bob" Heaps Canier, Sr., 83, of 916 Prairie Avenue in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa on Monday evening, May 16, 2011.

Bob was born on August 29, 1927 in Boone, Iowa the son of Richard and Avenelle (Heaps) Canier.

On September 27, 1952 he married Theresa "Tess" Allen at Galesburg, Illinois, who passed away in June of 1986. Bob later married his current wife, Shirley Mulcare, on November 3, 1990 in Galena, Illinois.

Bob was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Math and Science. He was a teacher for 30 years and coached basketball, baseball, and wrestling. Bob returned to Boone in 1990, where he retired.

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. Bob belonged to the American Legion Post #729 of Des Moines, Iowa, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a 60-year member of the Masons.

His parents and first wife, Theresa "Tess" Allen, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Shirley; 7 children; Robert "Rob" Canier and wife Carol of Savanna, Illinois; Roy Canier and wife Debbie of Galesburg, Illinois; Cheri Canier and Pat Johnson of Clinton, Iowa; Charlene "Charlie" Herring and husband Mark of Stockton, Illinois; John Canier of Kansas; Angela and Toni Lamb of Boone, Iowa, and Linda Canute of Hartsville, South Carolina; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be held on Friday morning, May 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Robert Canier and David Woods officiating.

Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel on Thursday evening, May 19th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends and will continue on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family.
