Ackley-John A., Oct. 28, 6 p. m. Age 85, beloved husband of Catherine, father of Mrs. J. Dvorak, Anson V. Ackley and Mrs. C. P. Reach. Funeral services from the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. P. Reach, 1265 Gladys avenue, Lakewood, Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p. m. Interment in Lakewood Cemetery.

John, in the 1860 U.S. Census for Marinette, Oconto County, Wisconsin was shown residing in a hotel working as a laborer, perhaps at a lumber mill.This explains his enlistment in Company H, 4th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry, May 16, 1861. He was discharged October 14, 1862. Rank: Corporal. After the Civil War he returned to Ohio. He applied for n invalid soldier's pension, March 9, 1863, which was issued as Certificate #166154 which means that he may have been injured, wounded, or ill when in the army which lead to his discharge. Upon his death, his widow, Catherine, applied for a widow's pension, November 13, 1925 which was issued as Certificate #970413 in Ohio.
