OBITUARY

Albert Perry Steritt died at his home in Humeston, last Friday, after a long illness. Mr. Steritt was born October 11, 1840, in Gibson county, Indiana.. He parents moved to Louisa county, Iowa, in the fall of 1845, settling at Columbus City, where he grew to manhood.

On August 2, 1862, he enlisted in Company F, 25th Iowa Volunteer Infantry to serve for three years, or during the war, and served to the close of the war under Sherman. Was wounded in the left shoulder at the battle of Ringgold, Georgia, in November 1863, and placed in the hospital at Chattanooga, where he remained a short time and was then taken to the hospital at Nashville. In December he was given a furlough and remained home ninety days, returning to the regiment at Woodville, Alabama. He returned home in June, 1865, and in the fall of 1866 was united in marriage to Miss Annie Jane Pinkerton.

In 1867 he and his wife joined the United Presbyterian church. They soon after moved to Wayne county, remaining here three years, when they moved to Woodland township, Decatur county, where they lived for twenty five years. There he united with the Associate Presbyterian church, in which he served as elder about fifteen years. The family moved from there to Garden Grove where they lived a short time, them moved to Humeston where they have since resided.

Besides the bereaved wife, seven children are left to mourn his death. The children are Eva, Nellie, Minnie, Lillie, Jennie, Joseph and Perry. Four were present at the funeral.

Mr. Steritt was a man of many excellent qualities, and his death is sincerely mourned by all who knew him. During the past few years he has suffered much, but bore it all with christian fortitude.

The funeral services were held last Saturday at the home, conducted by Rev. Sadler, of the Baptist Church, and the remains were taken to the cemetery at Woodland for interment.
