On July 10, 1942, Lorraine was united in marriage with Elmer Kannegieter at the Kesley Presbyterian Church parsonage in Kesley, Iowa. They made their home and farmed near Buck Grove for 15 years. For the next 20 years they lived and farmed near Parkersburg on two different farms nearby. To this union five children were born. Lorraine was a loving wife, mother and home maker. When her children were older she worked at the Stitchery in Parkersburg and also the Parkersburg Variety Store. In 1981 the couple built a new home in Parkersburg when they retired from farming.
Lorraine was a member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and was a wonderful cook. She also loved baking and would never let anyone leave her house hungry. Through the years she enjoyed going bowling and was on a bowling league for many years.
Lorraine loved to travel and some of her high lights were going to Germany, Alaska and the western United States. For about 10 or 12 years Lorraine and Elmer would travel in the winter to Phoenix, Arizona where their daughter, Ardith lived. Her pride and joy was her family and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
