Died prior to Aug. 15, 1901.

------------------------------------

As a child I was told that John Heniford, the first of our family we know about, was brought to Horry County by a Capt. Harrell or Harrelson. This is could have referred to a sea captain, a captain of militia or other military organization, or it could simply have been a title of respect for the owner of large holdings of land. John Heniford refused to say where he came from. The buzzards laid me, he said, and the sun hatched me." - as told by Catherine Heniford Lewis

------------------------------------

"The Henifords originated from some place in England. Grand dady John -- or sometimes known as Jackie Heniford -- was sent here to a uncle that lived in Ohio and the uncles family died some time after he arrived over here. Daniel Suggs migrated from Ohio and brought John Heniford with him and raised to manhood near Pleasant Meadow Church. His father was a General in the English army supposedly during the One Hundred Year War with France. The uncles name is not known. He married Jane Royals. He was married twice. Louise is his daughter (2nd wifes child) who is the mother of Duffie, Walter, Cinda. Grandmother Jane Todd." (Transcribed from a handwritten statement by Walter Heniford - undated - and owned by Eva Heniford Felkel.

(Note: The 100 Years War would have been *quite* a few generations back... 1337-1453. Hmmm.) ;)

Name of first wife unknown? Maybe a Royals?
