Edith Speed

Edith Ethelyn Dick Speed died Sunday at her residence in Greenville. There is a graveside service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston Wednesday and a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Presbyterian Church in Greenville. The daughter of Mattie Sneed Harris and Robert Campbell Dick, she was born Jan. 20, 1913 in Houston. She was orphaned at age seven and was raised by her oldest sister, Mattie Carmen Davis. On June 21, 1931 she married Harris Monroe Speed. He died Nov. 11, 1976 and she married Paul Rollett on Oct. 4, 1987. They moved to Greenville. Mr. Rollett died Jan. 20, 1996. Mrs. Speed graduated from Milby High School in Houston, attended business night school and worked for several firms before retiring from the Steam Engineering Department of Westinghouse Electric with 27 years' service. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, The Hunt County Herb Society, The American Cotton Museum and a former member of the League of Women Voters. Mrs. Speed is survived by daughters and sons-in-law June Marilyn and Dr. R. Irvin Morgan of Greenville and Judith Carolyn Leonard and Ron Bristol of Austin; a granddaughter and husband Melissa Beth Morgan and Michael Brown of Dallas; four grandsons and their wives, Neill Sagen and Nancy Patton Morgan of Sherman, Peter Ian and Amy Dooley Morgan of Greenville, Jeremy Walton and Tanya Leisner Leonard of Dallas and Paul Michael and Teresa Lashbrook Leonard of Playa del Rey, Calif.; eight great-granddaughters, eight nieces and seven nephews. Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in Greenville or to Hunt County Clothe-a-Child.
