Edwin Dean Seamster, 78 of Memphis, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The son of Elliott Adrian and Mary Katherine (Cook) Seamster, Dean was born on May 3, 1934 in rural Downing, Missouri. On January 12, 1958 in Memphis, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Barbara Mae Stothard and to this union three children were born, Deborah, Michael and Christopher John.

Survivors include his children, Deborah Seamster of Memphis, Missouri and Michael Seamster and his wife, Laura of Marion, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Christopher (Kim) Seamster of Floral Park, New York, Joshua (Tracy) Seamster of Marion, Iowa, Catherine (David) Nolte of Marion, Iowa and Janessa Seamster of Marion, Iowa; 4 great grandchildren, Hannah Seamster of Floral Park, New York, Ruby and Betty Seamster of Marion, Iowa and Maureen Nolte of Marion, Iowa; 2 sisters-in-law, Carol Seamster of Downing, Missouri and Carolyn June Root and husband, Con of Newburg, Missouri; 3 nieces, one who Barbara and Dean helped raise, Lisa Miller of Orlando, Florida, Marti McGoldrick and husband, Mike of Glenwood, Missouri and Marla Dufur and husband, David of Independence, Kansas; great nieces and nephews, Ashley and Caleb McGoldrick of Glenwood, Missouri and Taylor and Preston Dufur of Independence, Kansas; other family members and many good friends.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Mae Seamster on December 10, 2010; one son in infancy, Christopher John Seamster, November 7, 1968; 1 brother, Charles Adrian Seamster on January 7, 1999 and 1 sister-in-law and husband, Jane and Richard Lewis.

Dean was a Deacon and Elder of the First Christian Church in Memphis, Missouri where he was a faithful member as long as his health permitted. Dean was also a member of the I.O.O.F. in Downing, Missouri

Dean was a grain and livestock farmer while living in the state of Illinois. He and his family moved to Memphis, Missouri and he worked in farming for Hillis Baker. Then he worked for the City of Memphis for approximately 20 years in the Electric and Water Department.

Dean was a loving and supportive husband, a wonderful father and grandfather as he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be missed.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri assisted by Jack Sumpton, Pastor of the First Christian Church in Memphis, Missouri officiating. Pallbearers will be David Nolte, Terry Fincher, Mike Cantril, Joshua Seamster, Joel Kapfer and Brian Holton. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Lister and Joe Fulk.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. Memorials have been established for discretion of the family. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, Missouri.
