George William McCalmant was born on June 28, 1911, in Wyoming, Iowa, son of William and Bessie (Gee) McCalmant. He married Ruth Carpenter on December 1, 1935 in Wyoming, Iowa. She died on April 11, 1988. George worked with his father at McCalmant Auto Repair Shop, was a carpenter and later worked at Walter's Lumber in Wyoming, delivering LP gas. He was a former member of Wyoming Presbyterian Church and a member of the Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows. George helped start the Wyoming Ambulance Service and served on the Wyoming Fire Department for many years.
George is survived by a daughter-in-law, Pat McCalmant and a son-in-law, Lyle D. Watters, both of Wyoming; 3 grandchildren, Rick (Christine) Watters of Wyoming, Cindy (Richard) Henak of Oxford Junction, & Pam Watters-Cooper of Wyoming; six great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Thelma (Mrs. Elmer) Rohlena of Norway and Rose Mere of Wyoming; and 2 brothers, John McCalmant of Marion and Ben McCalmant of Olive Branch, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Richard in 2002, a daughter, Lorna in 2003, a grandson, Will in 1993, a great-granddaughter, Jessica Christiansen-Larrimore, five brothers and two sisters.
