Obituary from POST REGISTER (IDAHO FALLS, ID) - 11 NOVEMBER 1997:
Hazel LaVerne Card, 76, of Idaho Falls, died November 9, 1997, at her home of natural causes.
She was born October 1, 1921, at Salt Lake City, to Joseph Danniel and Sarah Maud Butte McNamara. During her childhood, her mother died and the family moved to Idaho Falls where her father was an engineer for the railroad. They lived for many years on J Street in Idaho Falls. She also lived in Rigby, Idaho, before returning to Idaho Falls in 1983.
During World War II, she served in the Women Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) as a chauffeur. She attended motor transport school and was stationed at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky, from March 1943 until August 1943, when she received an honorable discharge.
On May 28, 1959, she married Joe M. Card at Jackson, Wyoming. They were divorced in 1983.
She was a homemaker and mother, and worked for the railroad for many years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 1973 to 1976 she taught nursing for the Red Cross. She enjoyed sewing, nursing and life.
Survivors include her son, Rex Alan Card of Idaho Falls; her goddaughter, Shellie Brown of Macks Inn; two brothers, Gordon McNamara and Wayne McNamara, both of Idaho Falls; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild (godchildren). She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joe McNamara; two sisters, Gwen Nolte and Vivian McNamara; and a close friend, Thomas Stoner.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery with Bishop Mark H. Nelson of the Idaho Falls LDS 10th Ward officiating. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery by Snake River VFW Post 1004.
