William Mercer was the s/o John Mercer (Musser) and Elizabeth Vaught. John was born in PA. He married Elizabeth in Wythe Co. VA on 13 Nov. 1804. They migrated to Pulaski Co. KY and bought ground from her parents in 1809 on Pitman Creek (suburbs of Somerset). they had twelve children. Elizabeth preceded John in death and he married Patsy Newby on 12 Sept. 1844. He died 13 April 1855. His place of burial has not been identified.

William married Lucinda Hays on 12 Dec. 1851 and they settled in the northern part of Pulaski Co. near Bee Lick (Hwy 865 and Hwy 328)where they farmed and raised two sons and six daughters. The daughters are shown below as children. The two sons were Alford born 7 Feb. 1853 who did not appear on the 1860 census and James F. born 5 May 1856 who married Jemima ____ in 1875. they had six children. James F. was deceased prior to 1900. Burial places of Alford and James F. have not been identified.
