Leona X Behrends, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Behrends, died at the family home southwest of Auburn early Sunday morning. The death came as a surprise and a shock not only to the members of her immediate family but to her friends throughout the community. She had been in her usual good health and there was nothing to indicate that the end of life was to occur so soon after she had crossed the threshhold of young womanhood. She and her fiance, Earl Gerdes, had attended a neighborhood dance Saturday evening., and she had been in good spirits during the evening and during her return home.
The next morning however, she failed to arise as was her custom and investigation by members of the family revealed the fact tht at sometime during the night, while the member of the household slept, the Death Angel had entered the home and the spirit of the young woman had accompanied it into that realm where youth is eternal. Physicians were summoned and an examination disclosed the fact that death was due to an attack of neuralgia of the heart.
The deceased is survived by her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Albert J. Behrends, two sister, Mrs. William Gerdes, and Mrs. Harold Gerdes, all of whom share the deep and sincere sympathy of their many friends and neihbors. These also extend their sympathy to Earl Gerdes, the young man with whom she was to have stood at the marriage altar during this week.
Leona Behrends was born on the home farm where her entire life was spent, Jan. 7, 1905, and passed away at the age of 22 years, 9 months and 9 da ys. She attended the rural school in the neighborhood and in 1918 was confirmed at the Stone Church. She was a faithfull and loyal member of the church, having a part in all activities and was a member of the choir. She was a young woman who kept the faith that she had professed in her youth and she will be missed from her accustomed place in the church. She will also be missed from the home and from the circle of her friends and associates.
Funeral services were held at the Stone Church Following a short service at the home with Rev. Kunzendorf in charge. following the services the interment was made in the Stone Church cemetery.
