Wava Stakes Hornsby - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at Geesey-Ferguson Chapel for Wava Stakes Hornsby, 90, who died Sunday, Jan. 6, at Crowley American Legion Hospital. Burial will be in Maxie Cemetery with Rev. Nathan Avant presiding. Visitation was Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Joann Hornsby of Patos, Brazil and three grandchildren, Robyn Meche of Birmingham, Ala., Lucius Aaron Hornsby III of Laf-ayette and Heather Hornsby of Madrid, Spain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius Aaron Hornsby Sr.; one son, Lucius Aaron Hornsby Jr.; her parents, John and Virginia Stakes; four brothers, Willie, Truman, Glen and Lee Stakes; four sisters, Espy Taylor, Irene Anderson, Lettie Anderson and Erma Anderson. Mrs. Hornsby was a life-long member of the Maxie Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, and helped with MFY, as did her husband and son.

She graduated from Crowley High School and USL and taught for 35 years in Acadia Parish. After her retirement, she moved to Lafayette to be near her son’s family. After 20 years there, she returned to Crowley upon her son’s death. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley has been entrusted with the arrangements.
