Mrs. Avis Corcoran, Pioneer of Fruita, Dies Sunday at 73
Mrs. Avis Mae Corcoran, 73, died at her home at 621 Ouray Ave. at 10:45 a.m. Sunday following an illness of four years.
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Corcoran, wife of Austin Corcoran, was a member of a pioneer family of the Grand Valley and was widely known among the old timers.
Avis Mae Turner was born April 2, 1883, at LaVeta, the daughter of Nathan J. and Katherine M. Turner. The family moved to Fruita when she was a child, and her parents were engaged in the livestock business for many years.
She and Mr. Corcoran were married Dec. 14, 1905 at Pueblo. Mr. Corcoran is a writer for pulp magazines, his stories appearing in western and other magazines under several different pen names. He arrived here last night from Canon City.
Mrs. Corcoran was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to the husband are two sons, Albert A., LaJolla, Calif., and Robert M., Grand Junction; one daughter, Mary E., Grand Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Jake (Ethel) Stanibird, Colbran; and Miss Florence Turner, Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
