Jean Allen Smischney, 33, Rebecca Sue Smischney, 31, and their children, Jay Allen Smischney, 10, and Kimberly Michelle Smischney, 9, of Bemidji died Sunday in a fire at Remer.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Phillip's Catholic Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Rick Lambert and the Rev. Don Dummer officiating. A prayer service is scheduled for 8 p.m. today at the Snustad Funeral Home in Blackduck. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Shooks.

Mr. Smischney was born June 7, 1955, at Blackduck. He attended school at Kellher and at Bemidji Technical Institute. He and Rebecca Patterson were married Aug. 28, 1976, at Remer. She was born Dec. 9, 1957, at Remer and graduated from high school there. They lived at Brooklyn Park of a short while, and had lived in Bemidji the last nine years. He operated his own machine shop here and was an active member of the Bemidji Jaycees.

Jay Allen Smischney was born Oct. 2, 1978, in Minneapolis. Kimberly Michelle Smischney was born Dec. 26, 1979, at Bemidji. Both children were students at St. Philip's Elementary School.

Mr. Smischney is survived by his parents, Rudolph and Rosemary Smischney of Shooks; six brothers, James and Joseph of Kelliher, Jerome and Julian of Shooks, Jerald of Saum and Jeffrey of Brooklyn Park; and three sisters, Joyce Mueller of Princeton, JoAnn Foley of Melrose and Josephine Swanson of Apple Valley.

Mrs. Smischney is survived by her parents, George and Swanhild Patterson in Utah; a brother, George W. Patterson Jr. in Colorado; sisters Lynell Watson of Norfolk, Va., Kathy Duke of Mesquite, Nev., Patty Patterson of St. George, S.C., and Nancy Watson of Remer; and a grandmother, Lillian Patterson of Remer.
