Mills-Bisson's Grist Mill
1858 , Henderson, Sibley, MN, USA
The first flour mill in Jessenland was established about 1858 by Frenchman, Hyacinth Bisson who had been living with his family on the Isle of Jersey in the English Channel before immigrating to America. Charles and Hypolite assisted their father until the sale of the mill in the early 1860s. Who purchased the mill is unknown.
The mill may have been powered by steam and the engineering skills of the brothers used in the building and operating the steamer Otter, which they sold in 1869. The entire family then left for France but returned to Henderson in 1876 to establish other businesses.
