Eddie was the 5th child of Josiah and Mary (Carter) Naftzger.

He had three much older siblings and one who was just 16 months older than him, his brother Ernest.

Eddie's mother, Mary died when he was 3 years old. His father took on the responsibility of raising the children with the help of his daughters.

Eddie died of an accidental gunshot from the family gun carried in their buggy when he was 10 years old.

They were living in Ionia county at that time, attending school in Fallasburg.

He is buried next to his mother, his grandfather Reverend James Carter and his aunt, Lillie. He has a separate small marker next to the large one belonging to James and his daughters.
