Nancy Ann Degman was born in 1798 in Pennsylvania to Peter and Ruth (Killen) Degman. She is the oldest known child, but it is unlikely that she was the oldest child. The family was originally from Dover, Delaware and would eventually move to Mason County, Kentucky.

They may have lived for a while in Cincinnati, Ohio, or in Campbell County, Kentucky. Nancy married William David Winter of Cold Spring, Kentucky, in Ohio, and most likely in Cincinatti in 1820.

William and Nancy would live in Cold Spring until at least 1860. William's death was sometime between 1861 and 1869, with burial in Illinois. It is unknown if both Nancy and William moved to daughter Henria's home before they died, or if only Nancy did, but both are buried in the Trexler Cemetery.

Nancy was still living in 1882 when a story was published about her son-in-law, listing her as the oldest person in the county. She is not listed on the 1900 census.

Known children of Nancy and William are three daughters:

Mary Elizabeth Winter 1838 – 1923
Susan "Susie" Lavinia Winter 1839 – 1917
Henria G "Hennie" "Ann" Winter 1842 – 1918

There were very likely older children that may or may not have survived childhood.

Per Stephanie Hagstrom: Nancy and her husband are buried at Trexler Cemetery just south of the wall surrounding the family. William and Henria's (Gillson) first baby is buried next to them.
