Daniel was the son of James & Harriet Purinton.
He enlisted as a Private on 13 May 1864 at the age of 22. Daniel enlisted in Company L, 3rd Heavy Artillery Regiment Massachusetts on 30 May 1864, and mustered out Company L, 3rd Heavy Artillery Regiment Massachusetts on 18 Sep 1865 at Washington, DC. He was promoted to Full Corporal.

He died in 1879, at age 38, from an
"internal rupture from accident".
